KOUTSOUNARI - FERMA |
Ferma's most charming feature is in fact its coastline, beautiful little coves with gorgeous pebble beaches and crystal clear waters. During the 1980's it was one of the most visited tourist resorts of the Ierapetra County. Nowadays it is a quiet little town, mostly because tourism has not been further exploited; hotels are poorly maintained and neglected and efforts to improve them have hardly been made. The reason why, possibly lies in the fact that the locals don't have to rely on tourism alone; the local horticulture provides an admirable income for
the locals. The main disadvantage of spending a holiday in this area is the Meltemi wind. In the past this wind only appeared in August but its frequency has notably increased. Gusts of over 10 Beaufort are no exception in this area. |
